Yesterday, the British Board of Film Certification have cleared the Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s upcoming Indian period drama movie titled ‘Padmavati‘ for the release on the original date December 1. However, the announcement was met with a swift petition in the Supreme Court to delay the release date of the movie even in abroad until such time as it will be cleared for the release in India, and there is a protest by a Britain-based Rajput group.

There are several fringe outfits that have been protesting the release of the movie by claiming that the movie distorts historical fact and its depiction of Rani Padmavati (the role essayed by the actress Deepika Padukone) may cause offense to the Rajput community. There are many states such as UP. M.P and Rajasthan and they have banned the movie until the protest will die down. However, the Central Board of Film Certification has not clear the movie. They basically want the assurance that the movie will not be released until the decision has been made in India. However, there are several British cinemas that have already started listing the movie on their schedules and no firm dates have yet been mentioned.

Earlier, the Viacom18, the studio which is behind the big budget movie have issued the statement that they all are having a full faith that they will soon obtain the requisite clearance to the release the movie. Lawyer, M L Sharma mentioned the fresh plea for an urgent hearing has been presented and he has also alleged that the grave damage will be done to the social harmony if the movie was allowed to release outside the India. The  Rajput community claims that the makers of the movie have mispresented the facts in the movie. The court had earlier dismissed the plea seeking to delete certain alleged objectionable scenes. The Central Board of Film Certification has not yet certified the movie and the apex court could not inject a statutory body from doing its duty.

However, the court has not directly sent the complaint about the registration but they asked the recording of the statement of the complainant.
