Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat may have fared extremely well at the box office but controversies surrounding it, seem to be never ending. Delhi High Court received a plea regarding Deepika’s Padmaavat, that it glorifies the practice of Sati.

A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar  rejected the plea stating that the petitioner should have approached the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) at the “appropriate” time.

In a detailed manner the court also made it clear that film had been given a ‘U’/A’ certification and not a ‘U’ certification. Thus it does indicate a restricted viewing.

“As on date, the film stands released as well. The film stands released without any complaints and it is already in public domain. If the petitioner was having any complaint with regard to the issue raised in his writ petition, he should have made a complaint before the CBFC at an appropriate time. We find no merit in the petition. The same is dismissed,” the court was stated saying.

Also, the court clarified that writs can’t be registered in account of artistic works, solely on individual perceptions. The writ petitioner is not even quoted saying that the film is “supporting, justifying or propagating the practice of sati.”

Also the court was ‘hesitant to accept’ that in the current age and day, anyone would just get influenced by a practice by only viewing a work of fiction.
