Preity Zinta and Vir Das are all set to make guest appearances in an upcoming episode of the American sitcom Fresh Off The Boat. Th episode is expected to serve as the basis for a spin-off series, tentatively titled Magic Motor Inn.
The episode will be filmed in mid-November and it’s focus would be to introduce two characters that could potentially lead to the new series which would center on an Indian family whose daughter goes to school with Eddie Huang, according to the entertainment website Variety.
Vir Das has been cast as father DC while Preity Zinta has been cast as the mother, Meena. Fresh Off the Boat writer Rachna Fruchbom is attached to write. 20th Century Fox Television, which produces Fresh Off the Boat and where Fruchbom is under an overall deal, will produce.
Citing an individual with knowledge of the situation Variety reports that this episode is not a backdoor pilot, however. If ABC should decide to further develop the spin-off, it would need to shoot a pilot during the traditional pilot season.
Fresh Off the Boat is an American sitcom that depicts the life of a Taiwanese-American family in the US in the 1990s. It is loosely based on the autobiography of chef and food personality Eddie Huang. In May, the sitcom was renewed for a sixth season. It is streaming on Hotstar for Indian viewers.
