After wrapping up the shooting for Sanjay Dutt’s biopic Sanju, actor Ranbir Kapoor was immediately scouted by production company Yash Raj Films to star in their latest action movie Shamshera. Not much is known about the upcoming movie except for the fact that it will star Ranbir Kapoor portraying the role of a dacoit for the first time in his long career history. This collaboration between the actor and the production company will be a scene repeated after 9 long years. Ranbir’s last project with Yash Raj Films had been his portrayal of Harpreet Singh Bedi in “Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year”.

Shamshera is set to be directed by Karan Malhotra, who has a three-movie contract with YRF, Shamshera being the last movie of said contract. Karan Malhotra had previously directed popular Yash Raj Films movies like Agneepath and Brothers, which achieved critical acclaim, as well as praise from the fans.

In an official statement, Ranbir Kapoor has expressed his eagerness to play his role in Shamshera, as he expects it to be something extremely different from what he’s used to. Ranbir has also stated that he is looking forward to see Karan Malhotra take him out of his comfort zone in order to play his part in the film, and has confirmed that he is ready for any challenges that might come his way during the filming.

Shamshera is set to begin filming and move on to its pre-production stage within the next few months and wrap it all up in time to be aired on the big screen by mid-2019.
