A still from Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai

The 1980 Bollywood film Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai stars Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil in the lead roles. The film traces the anger of a worker in Bombay who wants to be a successful person and works hard for it. It portrays the unethical practices carried out by the capitalists and how workers are exploited. The concept is consistent even today and hence this film is a timeless classic.

The film’s approach of storytelling is what attracts me the most, the way the film portrayed the angst of a common man against the flawed system and how he battles against it, makes it a quite interesting watch. The protagonist is someone who won’t easily give up in front of a system that has lost its dignity.

The story of the film revolved around Albert Pinto (Shah) who is a garage mechanic from Goa who dreams of owning the expensive cars he drives for clients. His girlfriend Stella (Azmi) upsets him with her casual and pragmatic attitude to his colleagues as well as to their employer’s sexual interest in her. Albert’s father (Deshpande) joins a textile workers’ strike and stimulates his son’s political awareness.

Director Saeed Mirza wanted to attract the masses and hence he chose the film to be on a mainstream lane which is why we can see a lot of songs in the film. The film is shot on real locations will give you experience and drive you to the Bombay of the ’80s. Also, an unknown fact that the film’s story was inspired by the real experiences of the director.

A definite must-watch. Share your views and stay tuned to The Indian Wire for more such articles.
