An Indian film director Vishal Bhardwaj says that actor Rajinikanth would be his first choice for the role of King Lear if he makes the movie on the Shakespeare’s tragedies. Earlier also Vishal has adapted Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’, ‘Othello’, and ‘Hamlet’ into ‘Maqbool’, ‘Omkara’, and ‘Haider’.
Recently at the Brahmaputra Valley Film Festival, Vishal said that before making the movie ‘Haider’ he had worked on the script of ‘King Lear’ and he has imagined legendary actor Rajinikanth in the lead role. He says that Rajinikanth would be his first choice if he ever makes a movie. Vishal also chose Shakespeare’s tragedies to make films, while the movie ‘Maqbool’ was an accident and the remaining two were his attempt to complete the trilogy.
Vishal was looking for a story for his second movie and then he decided to make ‘Omkara’, which is an adoption of the Shakespear’s trilogy ‘Othello’ and finally after that, he was having a pressure to make the third movie of the trilogy. Later, he made the movie ‘Haider’ which was one of the difficult movies for him. He was under the pressure that whether the movie should match up to the first two films or not and at the same time he wanted to make the movie in Kashmir at the backdrop of conflict.
Vishal made his debut with the movie ‘Makdee’, which was an Indian comedy horror movie and later he made the movie titled ‘The Blue Umbrella’. Vishal says that there is hardly any creative efforts on the parts of adults to make the film for children. Even there are many movies which are made by the Children’s Film Society of India (CFSI) are not commercially viable. He says that these things should change and we as a member of the society must ensure that more such movies should be made for children so that they can see such movies in the cinema hall.
