The talented actor of Hollywood Will Smith has been signed up to play Richard Williams in the movie King Richard, Variety reports. The movie is based on on a script written by Zach Baylin about Richard Williams, father of global tennis stars and sisters Venus and Serena Williams.

According to Variety, the film “will center on Richard Williams overcoming hardship, skepticism, controversy, and his own troubled past to instruct his daughters, starting when they were four years old on the tennis courts of Compton, Calif. — despite not having a background in tennis.”

Tim and Trevor White will bankroll the project under the banner of Star Thrower Entertainment, while Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment company will co-produce the film.

Will is currently busy with the shoot of ‘Bad Boys for Life’ and will also appear in the role of Genie in Disney’s live-action remake of Walt Disney’s classic film ‘Aladdin‘. Will Smith promised to bring a ‘hip hop flavor’ to the character played by Robin William in the twenty-seven-year-old animated classic.

The film also features Navid Negahbam as the Sultan with Billy Magnussen as the new character called Prince Anders, Frank Welker will provide the voice over for Abu, Aladdin’s mischievous pet Monkey. Frank Walker will also provide the voice over for the Cave of Wonders. All the songs of 1992 animated film will be remade, along with some new music from composer Alen Menken.

The movie is slated to release on May 24, 2019, in the United States.
