Indian police have identified a suspect aiding in IPL betting scandal this season. Though the tournament has been currently suspended due to surge in COVID-19 cases in India, the hunt for the culprits continues.

The authorities observed that a cleaner employed for an IPL match at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla stadium match was being used to help an illegal betting operation.

The cleaner was aiding the betting rings by pitch siding which is otherwise known as ball-by-ball betting. The alleged accused was taking the advantage of time gap between the actual ball being pitched and the coverage of the same in the Television.

This information was transmitted by him from live location to the individuals, bookmakers and punters.

It was stated by the BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit chief, Shabbir Hussain Shekhadam Khandwawala that the ACU officers caught him on the scene but the suspect managed to escape.

The information was given to Delhi Police, who retrieved the information including Aadhar Card details, through accused’s mobile phone left on the scene.
