Due to spike in COVID-19 cases in South Korea, the government is considering the possibility of imposing highest level of restriction in Seoul to combat the pandemic.

The upsurge in the coronavirus cases has led to movement restriction in the country where the Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum urged the people ‘’to protect not just yourself, but everyone in your family, friends, school and the country.’’

The PM Kim added that: “If the situation is not under control after monitoring for two to three days, it might leave us with no choice but to impose the strictest of all social distancing levels.”

The imposition of restriction of the highest level would lead to closure of non-essential venues, such as casinos, bars or gyms. The social distancing norms, travel restrictions and requirement to stay at home are likely to be imposed.

Notably, Japan is also struggling with the pandemic and is considering to impose fourth state of emergency affecting business, tourism, travel and bars. However, casino properties in Seoul which cater to foreign tourists will experience the revenue fall owing to travel restrictions.
