This was reported right after the launching of Free Wi-Fi facility at Govindaraja Nagar ward, the DCM who holds Bengaluru Development portfolio, said that “the government agencies are working on modalities to introduce the facility across Bengaluru.”
Bengaluru’s First free Wi-Fi public space
In Govindaraja Nagar, where the free Wi-Fi facility has been initiated on trial basis right now is provided by Reliance JIO. The free Wi-Fi facility is spread over 3k.m. region is accessible for use to the public, just by feeding in their mobile numbers as passwords.
“The city corporation and the Information Technology department is having talks with various service providers to chalk out strategies for the free Wi-Fi connectivity,” a BBMP official said.
The Planning for the whole Idea
The free Wi-Fi plan for the public to access was a big plan kept away earlier in the long run. Incomplete communication among the internet service providers on rentals for this project had been delaying the entire free public Wi-Fi plan. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was delaying the process of fixing rentals for smaller telecom equipment called access points (AP).
Plans after the free usage
As per the initial start in the plan, the common mass will get to use public Wi-Fi free for the first 30 minutes. After, the 30 minutes if used, they will have to pay the commercial rates, as fixed by the TRAI, for using the service beyond the free minutes. 4 companies had expressed interest to provide public Wi-Fi hotspots when the project was initially planned.
