New Delhi: India on Tuesday registered 19,556 fresh cases of COVID-19. This number is the lowest in six months, according to data from the Union Health and Welfare Ministry.

Talking about the total number of cases, the tally of coronavirus cases in the nation now stands at 1,00,75,116. However, 2.92 lakh are active while over 96.36 lakh people have recovered from the deadly coronavirus. With 301 fatalities in the last 24 hours, the death toll has risen to 1,46,111.

As per the Health Ministry data, the total number of tests done on the previous day is 10,72,228. However, the number of low coronavirus infections fell below 20,000 for the first time in six which is due to a drop in testing on Sunday. Only six states reported more than 1,000 new cases on Monday.

However, a new strain of coronavirus that was found in the United Kingdom(UK)is creating tensions among world communities. On Monday, the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation state had temporarily banned all flights originating from the UK to India till 11:59 pm, 31st December. As per the ministry, “This suspension to start w.e.f. 11.59 pm, 22nd December. Consequently, flights from India to the UK shall stand temporarily suspended during the above said period.”

Meanwhile, five out of 266 passengers and crew members of a flight that landed at Delhi airport and from London last night have tested positive for coronavirus. Their samples have been sent to the National Centre for Disease Control ( NCDC), for research and they have been sent to the care centre, said Nodal officer for COVID-19.

As per ANI, Kolkata airport officials said that two passengers, who landed at Kolkata from Uk also tested positive for COVID-19 at Kolkata airport on Sunday.

Dr. Harsh Bardhan, Union Health Minister requested the people of Indian not to worry. He said the central government was on alert about the new strain of coronavirus that has been detected in the UK.

Also, the top advisory body of the Health Ministry is likely to meet today to discuss the new strain of coronavirus which is reportedly more 75 percent more infectious than the present virus world is dealing with. The Indian Express sources said experts from All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), along with a representative from the World Health Organisation (WHO), will attend the meeting.
