A day after the Opposition boycotted the Parliament on the 70th anniversary of ‘The Constitution Day” against the Developments in Maharashtra, today joined the Parliament on the eighth day of the winter session. Congress gave adjournment motion notice in the lower house of Lok Sabha over PSUs Disinvestment.

The Congress party on Wednesday has given adjournment notice in Lok Sabha over ‘indiscriminate disinvestment of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)’. This notice was given after the central government on November 20th announced it is selling stakes in several public sector undertakings (PSUs) and even giving up management control in oil marketing company Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL), Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR).

The government will transfer its 74.2% stake in THDC India Limited (formerly Tehri Hydro Development Corporation of India) and its 100% stake in North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) to another public sector unit and power distribution major, NTPC Ltd.

Congress MPs Adhir Ranjan Choudhary & Manish Tewari on Friday also gave adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha against the central government’s decision to disinvest in Public Sector Undertakings.

What is an Adjournment Motion?

In parliamentary procedure, an adjournment motion could end a meeting or a discussion, a time for another meeting on the issue could also be set using the motion.
