The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India saw a 4 percent fall in its wholesales cars to 1,53,149 units in December 2021 versus 1,60,226 units in 2020. 

Domestic sales  in December 2021 dropped 13 percent to 1,30,869 units corresponding to 1,50,288 units in December 2020.

Meanwhile, Tata Motors, the largest automaker in India, experienced a 50% increase in total PV sales to 35,299 units in December 2021, making it the second largest seller of passenger vehicles in the country for the first time in over a decade. A year ago, it sold a total of 23,545 units.

Hyundai Motor India Ltd reported a 26.6 percent decrease in total wholesales to 48,933 units in December 2020, compared to 66,750 units in December 2019. Domestic deliveries fell 31.8 percent to 32,312 units in February, compared to 47,400 units the previous month.

Another homegrown player, Mahindra & Mahindra, saw an increase of 10 percent in its domestic PV sales at 17,722 units in December 2021, versus 16,182 units in December 2020. The company  saw an increase of 11 percent in total sales at 39,157 units in the previous month.

Honda Cars India domestic sales dropped 8% to 7,973 units. It had sold 8,638 units in the country in December 2020. Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) domestic wholesales boomed about 26 percent to 89,152 units versus 70,593 units in the January-December period in 2020.
