DMK MP and the party’s women’s wing leader Kanimozhi on Tuesday said that the merger of both the factions of AIADMK will not be beneficial for the people.

The much-awaited merger of both the factions OPS and EPS was announced on Monday by Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and the current Chief Minister E. Palaniswamy. Following the merger Pannerselvam, swore in as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Reacting to the merger the opposition party DMK said that the merger will only benefit the leaders and will not be able to solve the problems faced by the people of Tamil Nadu. Replying to a specific question on the merger, Kanimozhi told the reporters that the people had not voted for these leaders and the fact that the government will continue is itself doubtful.

Talking about Projection of Rajnikanth by Gandhiya Makkal Iyakkam leader Tamilaruvi Maniyan against AIADMK and DMK, she said that the party had projected many candidates in the past also but did not reach anywhere. Viduthalai Chiraithagal Katchi president Thol Thirumavalavan said the fate of the state government would depend on the decision taken by the group of MLAs owing allegiance to sidelined AIADMK deputy general secretary T T V Dhinakaran. He further added that though the merger is accomplished but maintaining the unity and discipline in the party is still far from achieved. He also pointed out that a spilt from within the party may also be possible, leading to another political confusion.
