aap party mla suspend case

The AAP leaders had accused the BJP leader Arun Jaitley in DEC 2015, of corruption as the President of the Delhi Districts Cricket Association, a post he had held from 2000 to 2013. Jaitley denying all the allegations put by AAP leaders, in a response filed a civil defamation suit seeking Rs 10 crore damages against Kejriwal, AAP leaders Raghav Chadha, Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh and Deepak Bajpai.

Ahead of the hearing of the case, Kejriwal filed an application through advocate Anupam Srivastava, seeking the minutes of meetings of the DDCA between 1999 and 2014. The Delhi High Court has ordered Arun Jaitley to respond to the by July 28.

In response to the application filed by Kejriwal, Central government standing counsel Amit Mahajan, representing Jaitley said that the plea should be dismissed as the application was not filed properly. Supporting his statement Mahajan said that if a witness was being summoned, then a list of witnesses should be given first.

Pointing out the flaw in the application Mahajan said that appeared to be seeking to summon of a DDCA official, but in this case, no officials were listed to be summoned. He said that “the application was worded in that manner as the documents being sought would have to be brought by someone.”

Arvind Kejriwal is facing another Rs 10 crore defamation suit filed by Jaitley in May 2017, over the use of an objectionable word by Ram Jethmalani, lawyer of Kejriwal. Jaitley has accused Kejriwal of instructing his lawyer to forcefully use defamatory remarks like ‘crook’ against him during the cross hearing of the first defamatory suit filed against the AAP leader. Jaitley has demanded another ₹10 crore as damages for the insulting remarks and litigation cost from Kejriwal.
