Newly elected MLAs of the Biju Janta Dal in Odisha are likely to meet this Sunday, May 26 to elect Naveen Patnaik as the leader of the legislature party. This will be the fifth term of Naveen Patnaik as the Chief Minister of Odisha. BJD President Naveen Patnaik is also expected to meet all its new elected MPs on the same day.

State Polls and national elections in the state held simultaneously. BJD in the recently concluded state polls won 112 seats, 5 less than what they had won in 2014 State polls. While in national polls BJD won 12 Lok Sabha seats, 8 less than what it had won in 2014 national polls in the 21 Lok Sabha Seat state.

Earlier, Patnaik called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi and congratulated him for the victory of the BJP-led NDA in the Lok Sabha elections. ‘Congratulate #NDA and @BJP4India for the huge victory in . Look forward to working together for the people of #Odisha’, he said in a tweet.

In 146 Assembly state, Biju Janata Dal won 112 seats while BJP 23, Congress 9 and one each bag by CPI-M and Independent Candidate. While in national polls, BJD won 12, BJP managed to make inroads in the state with its victory on 8 Lok Sabha Seats while Congress only won a lone seat of Koraput.
