BJP is holding a meeting on 28th February where the top BJP leaders including Narendra Modi and Amit Shah will be meeting the CMs of the BJP-ruled states and deputy chief ministers as well.

The meeting is being held to discuss various issues of development, welfare schemes and even the question of simultaneous polls. This will also help in the run-up to the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. This is the third meeting of its nature following those held on August 25th and September 21st last year. The meeting will provide a wider platform to hold a debate on the idea of holding simultaneous polls. The deliberations will last the entire day.

Now that BJP is ruling 13 states, the task to ensure proper development will also be a heftier task to take on. This meeting will help in smoothening the rougher edges of BJP’s development plan and ensure no state is left behind. Plans, like providing health insurance to 10 crore poor families and focussing on agriculture, will also figure in the discussions. Agriculture is also expected to be at the centre because of the increase in the minimum support price. The union budget and its effects will also matter in the meeting. Moreover, BJP has circulated a 10 point action plan to its chief ministers.

While the meeting has been confirmed, what’s going to be discussed still remains vague. But the meeting is expected to end with Modi’s address. This meeting will help in setting the stage for the implementation of simultaneous polls, the ‘one nation one election’ and also making sure that all party functionaries are on the same page. It seems the preparation for the elections in 2019 will be more elaborate than the elections themselves. As long as development is seen it will not matter what the parties do for the sake of development.
