Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Tikamharh Lok Sabha Seat Madhya Pradesh Dr. Virendra Kumar on Monday was picked for the post of the Protem Speaker. Kumar will be the Protem Speaker of the 17th Lok Sabha.
Dr. Virendra Kumar elected to 11th, 12th, 13th & 14th Lok Sabha and represented the Sagar constituency of Madhya Pradesh between 1996-2009.
He later elected from Tikamgarh Parliamentary Seat from 2009 and was elected to 17th Lok Sabha from the same seat.

In the recently held national polls, Dr. Virendra Kumar Khatik defeated Ahirwar Kiran of Congress with over 3.48 Lakh votes.
Kumar was MoS in the ministry of women and child development (headed by Maneka Gandhi) and MoS in the minority affairs ministry in Narendra Modi‘s previous government.
According to reports, Virendra Kumar’s name was finalized by the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry. He will be administered oath by President Ram Nath Kovind.
Among other front runners for the post was Maneka Gandhi. The eight-time MP has been kept away from Union Cabinet this time.
The protem speaker is a temporary post and the primary task is to administer the oath of all MPs of the Lok Sabha. The protem speaker will preside over the first meeting of the 17th Lok Sabha.
The first session of the 17th Lok Sabha will begin from June 17th and will continue till July 26. President Ram Nath Kovind will address the joint session of both the houses of parliament on 20th June. Election to elect a new Speaker of the House will be held on June 19th.
