The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated inquiries in the sale of 21 state-owned sugar mills during the tenure of Mayawati government in the year 2011-2012 that has led to a loss of  1179 crores to the state exchequer. The investigation could bring a troublesome situation for the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati.

After coming to power, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BJP leader Yogi Adityanath government recommended a Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) probe into the irregularities during the Mayawati government in the disinvestment of 21-owned sugar mills.

CBI has filed an FIR and six preliminary inquiries after the initial investigation into the probe of the sugar mills. Though the former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati has not been named in the FIR, yet trouble can spice up for her as all of it happened when she was in power in the state.

CBI has not named any politician or any UP government official as accused in the FIR lodged. CBI has booked seven private individuals. These officials allegedly submitted forged documents during the procurement of the sugar mills of the company.

The alleged in the Uttar Pradesh State Corporation Ltd. is Rakesh Sharma and Suman Sharma from Delhi. Dharmendra Gupta from Ghaziabad and Saurabh Mukund, Mohammed Jawed, Naseem Ahmed and Mohemmed Wazir from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.

They have been booked for forgery, cheating, and falsification of the accounts and contravention of the provision of companies act, 1956.
