Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan and Dimple Yadav, wife of Samajwadi party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday held a roadshow in Uttar Pradesh‘s Prayagrag. The Star Campaigners of the party were seeking votes for the party candidate Rajendra Pratap Singh.

Rajendra Pratap Singh who is a joint candidate of Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party in the state is pitched against Rita Bahuguna Joshi of Bharatiya Janata Party. While Congress has named Yogesh Shukla.

The party in a run-up to the national polls named 40-star campaigners including Mulayam Singh, Akhilesh YadavRam Gopal Yadav, Azam Khan, Dimple YadavJaya Bachchan, Rajya Sabha MP Javed Ali Khan, among others.

Allahabad, now known as Prayagraj, will go to polls on May 12. In the 2014 national elections, BJP Shyam Charan Gupta had won the seat by defeating Samajwadi Party’s Kunwar Rewati Raman Singh with around 80,000 votes.

However, in a run-up to the mega polls 2019, Shyama Charan Gupta team up with Samajwadi party. The party has named Gupta from Banda Lok Sabha Seat for the mega contest.

Bharatiya Janata Party Staunch Leader Murli Manohar Joshi had in past represented the then Allahabad Lok Sabha Seat. MM Joshi had won the constituency in the year 1996, 1998 and 1999.

Samajwadi Party in the state has forged an alliance with Bahujan Samaj Party and Ajit Singh’s Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD). Under the poll pact, both SP and BSP contesting on 37 and 38 seats respectively. While 3 seats been offered the RLD in West part of the state, the sugar belt, as known popularly.

General Elections 2019 is being held across seven phases starting April 11 to May 19. Counting of the votes will be held on May 23. Voting oo the remaining 118 constituencies will be held in two phases slated on May 12 and May 19. While in Uttar Pradesh, polling in 80 seats is spread on seven phases. The remaining 27 seats of the state will go to polls on remaining two phases – May 12 and May 19.
