As the Karnataka political crisis still on, 13 Rebel MLAs on Tuesday has written a letter to Karnataka Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar seeking more time to appear before the speaker in Vidhana Soudha, Bengaluru. In a letter to the Assembly Speaker, rebel legislators requested him to give four weeks time to appear.

In the letter, rebels added that they had moved to the Top Court after tendering their resignations, which has also directed the Speaker to consider their resignations.

Talking about the rules, they mentioned, ‘You are aware under the Disqualification rule, 1986, it requires at least a minimum of 7 days period. In spite of that, the process is being hurried up. In such circumstances, we seek 4 week time’.

The letters have been written by rebels including Ramesh Jarkiholi, Munirathna, R Shankar, BC Patil, Shivaram Hebbar, Mahesh Iranagouda Kumathalli, MTB Nagaraju, Pratapgouda
Patil, ST Somashekar, BA Basavraja of the Congress and Narayan Gowda, K
Gopalaiah, and H Vishwanath of JD(S).

Karnataka Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar on Monday summoned the rebel MLAs to meet him at his office at 11 am on July 23. The notice was issued over disqualification (of rebel MLAs) petition by coalition leaders.

Earlier on Monday, hours after a heated debate in the House, the proceedings were adjourned without voting on a confidence motion. Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar set 6 p.m. on Tuesday as the deadline to complete the voting, amid angry objections by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Adjourning the house, Speaker said, “By 6 pm tomorrow the floor test will be done”.

In the meantime, a PIL was filed in the Karnataka High Court on Monday alleging that the floor test was deliberately being delayed in the state Assembly.

HD Kumaraswamy-led coalition government, on Friday, failed to meet the two deadlines set by the Governor Vajubhai Vala for the Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy to prove the majority in the House. Following which the floor test was scheduled for Monday.

The Supreme Court last week ruled that the 15 rebel MLAs cannot be compelled to take part in the proceedings of the House.

The 13-months old coalition government suffered a huge setback earlier this month when 11 MLAs from CongressJD(S) ruling coalition tendered their resignation. And thereafter political episode and drama started in Karnataka. Later on, many other MLAs also tendered their resignation taking the tally to over 16 till now.
