The issue of cow vigilance and the ban on beef eating was the headlines for quite a few days in the recent past. while many riots and killings were done in the name of protecting the cows, political parties also targetted each other on the matter.
In an interview with the press on 7 Sep, the new Union Minister for Tourism, KJ Alphons, said mocking on the issue of beef eating said that the tourists visiting India can eat beef in their own countries and then come to the nation. As quoted by him he said “They (tourists) can eat beef in their own country and come here yaar… the whole world should come and see us… We have to love our history and our country… We have to tell them… look here, this is a beautiful country.”
His comments come just a few days later after the contradictory remark made by Alphons himself saying that Kerela is a beef eating state and BJP has no problem with it. KJ Alphons was appointed the new Minister for Tourism after the reshuffle in the Modi cabinet on Sunday. A day after he assumed the office as the tourism minister he had said that “Kerala is a beef-eating state. It is not going to stop eating beef. It will continue to eat beef. The BJP doesn’t have a problem.”
When the reports questioned him about the statement made by him earlier he just passed away the question saying that “that is a cock and bull story. I am not the Food Minister, I am the Minister for Tourism.”
