With the Polling in effect from April 11, the first phase of Lok Sabha elections has begun. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) councilor was noticed distributing RS 500 notes among the voters at the site of the polls. In Andhra Pradesh‘s Kurnool district TDP councilor Shavashankar Yadav was seen distributing currency notes among voters at Nandamurinagar polling station.

A Naxal hit area, Kurnool Lok Sabha constituency is highly influenced by the Naxals.

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded DR. PV Parthasarthi from the constituency. Congress has fielded Ahmed Ali Khan. Communist Party Of India (CPIM) has fielded K Prabhakara Reddy from the constituency. YSR Congress Party Sanjeev Kumar. Whereas, TDP has fielded Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy.

The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu and YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy have cast their votes in the early hours of the Phase one of the Polls.

Kurnool is one of the 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Andhra Pradesh.

The constituency is witnessing its 17th Lok Sabha elections. In the previous elections, the turnout voters for the Lok Sabha were above 64 percent in 1999. In 2004 the voters were dropped considerably to 62%. In 2009 the voters’ turnout was 67 percent whereas the maximum voters were in 2014 contributing to a total of 72 percent.

The results for the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on May 23.
