Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet the US President Donald Trump on 26 June. This will be the first meeting of both the leaders after Trump assuming the office as the President.

Ahead of the meeting, State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert in her statement to reporters at her daily news conference said that, The United State is looking forward to strengthen ties with India. She further added that “We have a lot of areas of mutual cooperation, fighting terrorism, we have a lot of people-to-people ties, strong people-to-people ties; so we’re looking forward to that visit.”

India will focus on building and strengthening chemistry with US during this meeting. The two leaders will also discuss issues regarding the fight against cross-border terror with special emphasis on the Afghan-Pakistan region, the growing network of terror groups and the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan. Expanding the defence partnership with a focus on DIIT and economic architecture for Asia-Pacific region is also on the agenda.

Since, Trump assumed his office in November 2016, Modi and Trump have three times held telephonic conversations, the last being Donald’s call to congratulate over the victory in Uttar Pradesh assembly polls.
