With just weeks left for General Elections 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leaving no stone unturned in a bid to return to power at the Centre. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently busy in announcing and launching sops ahead of Polls to galvanize support for his party and the Government.

In a row, PM Modi on Tuesday in Ahmedabad launched a national pension scheme named Prime Minister Shram Yogi Maan Dhan Yojana (PM-SYM). The National Pension Scheme is aimed to benefit those unskilled workers, and labourers working in the unorganised sector in the country with a monthly income of  15,000.

The scheme will ensure monthly pension of Rs 3000 after retirement.

PM Modi had earlier announced PM Kisan Yojana to give financial support to farmers. PM Modi launched the National Pension Scheme on the backdrop when EC is expected to announce the General Elections Poll dates after which Model Code of Conduct would be in place.

The National Pension Scheme has been proposed by the Central Government and was announced by Piyush Goyal – who was given the Interim Charge of the Finance Portfolio in the absence of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley – in the interim budget in February this year.

Piyush Goyal while presenting the Budget earlier said that Under the scheme, the centre assured pension of  3,000 per month after 60 years of age in lieu of a minimum monthly payment between  55 to  100 depending on the age of joining the scheme.

Major Highlights of the Prime Minister Shram Yogi Maan Dhan Yojana (PM-SYM)
  • Central Government allocated Rs. 500 crore for the Flagship Programme that aimed to benefit those unskilled workers, and labourers working in the unorganised sector.
  • The centre assured pension of  3,000 per month after 60 years of age in lieu of a minimum monthly payment between  55 to  100 depending on the age of joining the scheme.
  • An Unorganised Labourer joining National Pension Scheme at the age of 29 years will have to contribute only Rs 100 per month until the age of 60 years
  • With this Programme, Centre aimed to benefit at least 10 crores unskilled workers
  • PM Modi said with this scheme 42 crore workers from un-organised sectors are eligible for this pension scheme by contributing Rs 55 to Rs 200 rupees a month.
