Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the plea of former BSF constable and Samajwadi Party candidate Tej Bahadur Yadav against the rejection of his nomination from Varanasi Lok Sabha constituency.
The Top Court Bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi dismissing the plea said, “We don’t find any merit to entertain this petition.”

Earlier the Top Court on Wednesday asked the Poll Office to examine the plea of former BSF constable Tej Bahadur Yadav.
Sacked BSF jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav on Monday approached Supreme Court challenging rejection of his nomination from Varanasi Lok Sabha Seat. Samajwadi Party has named Yadav to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi where polling is slated for May 19, the seventh and the last phase of polling.

The nomination of Sacked BSF Jawan Tej Bahadur Yadav was rejected by the poll officials last week citing incomplete information.
Tej Bahadur Yadav who had earlier filed nomination his nomination as an Independent was named as Samajwadi Party candidate at the very last moment. Samajwadi party replaced Shalini Yadav with Yadav for Varanasi Lok Sabha Seat – a seat from where PM Modi is seeking his second term.
Congress has named Ajai Rai as its candidate for the mega polls 2019.
Varanasi Lok Sabha Seat will go to polls on May 19, four days before counting.
Modi had in 2014 General elections defeated AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal with over 3.80 Lakh votes. Prior to Narendra Modi, BJP Senior Leader Murli Manohar Joshi represented the Varanasi Seat since 2009-2014.
