With the 2019 polls just around the corner, the status of unity for the opposition has frequently been questioned by several individuals. It has also been presumed that the opposition is built on the premise of having a non-BJP government in the center, however, the other aspects of governance remain much in a haze. Rahul Gandhi, yesterday, clearly defined the stand of the opposition and said that the unit in the opposition is not merely to oppose a BJP center but to have a ‘common vision of India.’ with the idea of ‘potecting the Constitution.’

“We will fight the coming elections as also the Lok Sabha polls in 2019 together. We will defeat the BJP in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, and then we will throw them out of power at the Centre,” he spoke during the speech.

Congress and 9 other parties have as of now come forward to form a united opposition block for the upcoming polls. Rahul Gandhi stated the purpose of the opposition at Sanji Virasaat Bachao Sammelan or ‘Save Composite Culture’ Seminar which was arranged by JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav. He specifically spoke about the unity and strength of the anti-BJP block because on several occasions before the BJP leader, Narendra Modi had alleged the opposition of having no common ideology or plan to lead the nation. Attacking the ideologies of BJP and Modi’s speech where he referred India as a ‘sone ki chidia’ (or the golden bird) Rahul Gandhi stated that the vision of BJP is similar to that of the ‘British’ and India should be confluence of ideas and thoughts and not just merely a land where one thought prevails and dominates over the rest.

“When I thought about it deeply, I came to the conclusion that there are two visions for India — one is that of the BJP, whose president said recently in a speech said that India is a sone ki chidia or a golden bird. And the second is our view — we see India as a river that can imbibe every stream of ideology in it,” he spoke to address the opposition’s plan for the future.

The conference was attended by leaders of CPI-M, CPI, NCP, RLD, and JD-S. Gandhi, further elaborated his argument where he spoke that even though the idea of GST and demonetization was good but the hasty implementation had and is still affecting a number of people in the nation.
