Indian Women’s team continue its winning streak defeating Sri Lanka in their fourth match of ICC Women’s World Cup 2017. Till now, India is unbeaten in the tournament. Deepti Sharma’s 78 and Mithali Raj‘s another fifty helped India to give Sri Lanka a target of 233 runs. Poonam Yadav’s 2-23 restricted the Sri Lankans to a score of 216 runs.

Winning the toss, Indian girls opted to bat first. India did stumble on early wickets of Smriti Mandhana (8 off 11) and Punam Raut (16 off 29) but Deepti Sharma (78 off 110) and Mithali Raj (53 off 73) later built the innings. At the end of the innings, India was able to make a score of 232 runs in 50 overs. From the opponent side, Sripali Weerakkody took 3 wickets. The skipper Inoka Ranaweera bagged two wickets while Chandima Gunaratne and Ama Kanchana got one wicket each.

The opponents were not able to make a base for the chase as they lost early wickets. Openers Nipuni Hansika (29 off 66) and Hansini Perera (10 off 15) were not able to score big. In form batsman, Chamari Atapattu also got out on 25 runs. Though Dilani Manodara (61 off 75) smashed a half-century. However, it was of no use as Sri Lanka lost the match by 16 runs. Indian bowlers did a fantastic job which resulted in Sri Lanka making only 216 runs. Jhulan Goswami and Poonam Yadav took two wickets each whereas, Deepti Sharma and Ekta Bisht got one wicket each.

India will next play against South Africa and will try to continue this winning streak.
