Neeraj Chopra qualifies for the finals of the Diamond League finals.
He was born on December 24, 1997, in Khandra Panipat, Haryana. He is an Indian track and field athlete.
The first time he represented India was in the IAAF World U20 championships in 2016.
He clinched the gold medal, becoming the first Indian to achieve a gold medal in track and field events.
It wasn’t just a gold medal apart from that he also achieved the World U20 record throw of 86.48m.
Medals journey
Neeraj participated in the 2018 Commonwealth Games as well as the 2018 Asian Games.
He served as the flag-bearer in both games and also achieved gold medals in both of the games.
In 2020, he made his debut in the Tokyo Olympics, whereby, with a monstrous throw of 87.58m, he achieved the gold medal on the 7th of August 2021.
After winning the gold medal, he joined the tally and became the second Indian to achieve an individual gold medal in the Olympics after Abhinav Bindra.
Later, he went to play at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland, where he broke the national record as he marked a throw of 89.30m.
In just over 15 days, he broke his national record as he accomplished a throw of 89.94m in the Stockholm Diamond League in Sweden.
On July 23, he became the second Indian to achieve a medal in the World Athletics Championships, as he achieved the silver medal.
The Lausanne Diamond League
Chopra became the first Indian to achieve the Lausanne Diamond League title.
Neeraj’s first throw marked a distance of 89.08m as he led from the first round itself.
His second throw landed at a distance of 85.18m, whereas he still leads the way.
He skipped his 3rd and 5th throws, whereas the 4th one was foul.
With a mesmerizing first throw of 89.08m, as he wins and qualifies for the finals.
The finals of the Diamond Leagues will be in Zurich on September 7th and 8th.
He also qualified for the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary by clearing the qualifying mark of 85.20m.
