It is one of the oldest and busiest shopping areas of Bengaluru and is best explored by foot. Commercial street attracts every girl that steps into this place. Commercial Street is also known as Shopping paradise which always most frequented by youngsters and families alike.

Commercial-Street-1

It was my favorite day again, Sunday and like any girl, I too love shopping. So where else would you go shopping in Bengaluru, other than its famous Commercial street? I just adore street-shopping, as my birthday was forthcoming I had headed to the Commercial street for shopping.

It was the monsoon and the weather was perfect and cloudy, and thank god it was just drizzling and not rained heavily. I started exploring Commercial Street from Safina Plaza, known famously for heavily discounted outlets, and kitschy articles, Safina Plaza have more to offer than just low-priced items. Commercial Street has many-many bi-lanes where you can spend hours on end simply looking at the goodies before you actually select on buying anything. Shopping in Commercial Street is incomplete without a peek at these tiny places. The variety of items here is overwhelming and hence, for a newcomer shopping can be quite chaotic.

The by-lanes of Commercial Street are as popular and famous as the main street itself. You have to check things out for yourself for what will really catch your eye. We walked the interlinking by lanes rather than the actual Commercial Street. I bought my first buy, what caught my eyes, i.e, earrings and lots of them. When I tried and tried to bargain with the wallet-vendor on one lane, the poor old man held his peace and was incredibly patient with us. He let us check out and buy to our heart’s content, Now I have my funky wallet in my hand.

Time then for me to hit the Commercial Street and stock up on some bangles. After the purchase of some colorful bangles we walked ahead and we reached a shop that was decorated with such lovely and bright colored sandals, that I wanted all of them. I picked up the ones which fit me and it looked lovely on my red jeans. Each of these sandals was priced at Rs. 100/- up to Rs. 200/-. Very competitive and reasonable and therefore ideal for college girls to pick up plenty and match every attire with their sandals.

Then I came across Tamanna shop, which is an awesome place for bridal collection. There is so much more for a bride to be in these streets. There are also a lot of tailors around this area who are very popular in the city. People come from all over the city to get clothes stitched here. There are shops here which specialize in sari zari stitching, to elaborate blouses, to ethnic and western dresses, to simple alterations and many more.

The shopkeepers here are friendly and not very aggressive. They are aware of the current trends and are ready to assist. But don’t be fooled by their good nature, bargaining is a must here. If you’re a Shopaholic like me then you should really hit these spots- Bangles, slippers, dress materials, fashion accessories, the list is just endless.

I was very delightful seeing how everything that is available in a branded showroom in this area is available on the streets as well. After a long walk around, although my shopping hunger was satisfied with the variety of things I bought, but my appetite was not convinced. Then I found Anand and Woody’s (one of the oldest restaurants in this area), savored refreshing badam milk with chaats at Anand and dosa at Woody’s.

By this time the dark clouds began to gather around and the hustle on the busy shopping street reduced slightly with the drizzle and it started pouring crazy So, after a having a great time doing my birthday shopping, bargaining with the shopkeepers for the sake of it and eating loads of junk food I was dead tired and I left for my home.

I conclude saying this is the one stop street Shopaholic in you. If you want cheap, affordable, trendy, colorful things in Bengaluru then this is a must visit place.
