It’s not for the first time that Pakistan has been accused of terrorism. A single word called terrorism invokes a lot of images of bloodshed, hue and cry, loss of life and property and amongst all, fear. Pakistan has time and again being labeled and considered as an epitome of terror activities, housing terrorists and even funding for their activities. Terrorist organizations like Lashkar-e-Taliban, Jesh-e-Mohommad, ISI etc. have all been believed and proved too to be getting aid for their terrorist activities from Pakistan. But, the government of Pakistan has still taken no remedial action in this direction. These organizations and militant groups have been the propagators of violence and terror amongst the common people not only of Pakistan’s neighbors i.e., India, but Afghanistan as well.
With growing interdependence on America and India, America seems to have started resonating Indian complaints against Pakistan as well. Recently, a top American diplomat said, “The United States has made it clear that it expects Islamabad to take action against terrorists in sanctuaries inside Pakistan”.
The Awakening of the American conscience
“We have made clear to the Pakistani government our expectations for them to take action against terrorists that are in sanctuaries in Pakistan, to reduce the pressure and the threat of violence in Afghanistan,” he said. Afghanistan, since the beginning of the millennium, has been under American-radar for its conspired acquisition of oil tanks there. Sympathizing with Afghanistan would help America achieve the dual strategies of getting sympathy vote in the otherwise antagonistic Afghanistan.
Also, it would help America get an appreciative role from the Indian government for siding with it. The third purpose would solve the American dilemma of getting an appraisal in its role to promote world peace as Taliban is one of the major issues in the world security. But finishing one house in order to protect the other one has been American policy for long. Thus, to reaffirm the US’ commitment to strengthening its partnership with the country, Sullivan unveiled the humanitarian and concerned mask of American shrewdness.
