German politicians’ personal data has been hacked by hackers. They found it after receiving a post where hackers have posted several personal data including credit cards details and mobile phone numbers of hundreds of German politicians from several major parties including US chancellor Angela Merkel’s personal data too.

According to news reports, a spokesperson of BSI national cyber defence body of Germany said that early on Friday, they met after the body received the news of the data hack.

A spokesperson said that those who were affected were politicians among the far-left Linke party, also including the leader of its group, Dietmar Bartsch, in the lower parliamentary house.

A newspaper cited in its online edition that German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and the US chancellor Angela Merkel were also affected and victim of the hack.

A local broadcaster reported earlier that the information (data) of hundreds of politicians has been posted on a Twitter account with including personal letters, addresses and also copies of theirs’ identity cards.

Expect the German’s far-right AFD party, all the major parties of the country were affected. The report said the identity of the hackers has not been yet known and also their motives are still unknown.

A newspaper stated that the Germany government’s secure internal network has not been attacked by the hackers, citing the BSI.

A spokesperson of BSI said that the national cyber defence body has met to coordinate with the response of the federal government agencies with including the foreign intelligence and domestic agencies.

According to reports, the spokesperson said the Germany cyber body began the meeting “as soon as were aware of this – so since this morning”, without providing any further details of the hack.
