Riga [Latvia], August 20: Indian Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu has on Monday said he believed there was a lot of scopes for Latvia to become one of the important allies of India as he noted the global economy is escalating towards the industrial revolution where innovations and technology will plan vital roles.

Naidu, addressing the Indian diaspora on Monday at Latvia’s capital Riga, said, “I see a lot of scope for Indian and Latvian companies to engage in new-age technologies through collaborations,” according to ANI news reports.

While underlining the bilateral trade ties between the two nations had immense potential, Naidu called the Indian diaspora in Riga as “mediums for bringing foreign investments, technology, expertise, and goodwill” to both nations.

He stressed, “We in India, are proud of our 30 million strong Diaspora all over the world. Your contributors to the progress and prosperity of your motherland are indeed praiseworthy.”

He added saying, “You promote our rich cultural heritage and values. Your contribution is crucial in the development of our friendly relations and promoting people to people contact.”

The Indian vice president, who arrived in Riga on Saturday on his five-day three-nation visit to Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, marking the first-ever Indian high delegate to pay an official visit to these three Baltic nations.

Naidu also praised the Indian community for paving their ways for themselves in the East European nation. He said, “A lot of credit behind your happy and successful stay in the country must also go to the warm-hearted and generous Latvians and I compliment them for the same.”

Naidu further stressed India is committed to bolstering its bilateral and diplomatic relations with Latvia in all segments including academics, culture, investment, and business.
