PM set to form new alliance within next two weeks.

Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said the United National Party-led new political alliance National Democratic Front (NDF) will be set up within the upcoming two weeks.

The Colombo Page has quoted Wickremesinghe as saying other political parties of the country can also join the alliance in the future.

According to ANI news reports, while addressing a ceremony held on Tuesday to handover 266 houses under the 2nd phase of the “Siyapath Sevana” housing scheme in Dematagoda, the prime minister dismissed his opponent’s remark claiming that he does not have any intention to divide the country.

Wickremesinghe said, “My opponents are accusing me of trying to divide the country. I will never divide this country.”

Also, he underscored that certain political groups are trying to spread false rumours claiming that the Sri Lankan government is trying to divide the country because they are jealous of the country’s development projects which are being carried out by the UNP led government.

While stating that he is committed to rebuilding the whole country by paying off the debts which are running into billions of dollars, the Sri Lankan prime minister said, “The government aims to focus its attention on converting Colombo into the central hub of the Indian Ocean.”

The political front will be formed along with same minded parties such as the Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA), the Jathika Hela Urumya (JHU), and Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC).
