Russian deputy foreign minister Sergey Ryabkov has on Monday held discussions with Brazilian foreign ministry senior officials aimed at the development of both countries bilateral relations along with addressing the situation in the region, Moscow’s foreign ministry, in a statement, said.

According to Sputnik news reports, the statement said: “During the consultations, which were held in the inherent constructive atmosphere of the Russian-Brazilian dialogue, pressing issues relating to the bilateral cooperation, the international agenda, including taking into account Brazil’s presidency of the BRICS, and the regional issues have been discussed.”

Later in the week, Ryabkov is expected to attend a meeting of sherpas and sous-sherpas of BRICS countries that was scheduled to take place in the Brazilian city of Curitiba on Thursday and Friday.

Ryabkov has on Monday met with Brazilian secretary of bilateral negotiations in Asia, Oceania and Russia Reinaldo Jose de Almeida Salgado and was also received by Brazilian Foreign Affairs Minister Ernesto Araujo.

Last week, the White House has said that Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro would hold a meeting with the United States President Donald Trump on a wide range of mutual interests in security in the Latin American region, including Venezuela’s situation, who is currently facing a political and humanitarian crisis.
