Sudan Seek Lifting US Sanctions

The Sudanese opposition alliance and the military council have reached a deal to form a new coalition council to run the nations until the coming next election.

According to Al-Jazeera news reports, the agreement was signed during a meeting held on Saturday between the Declaration of Freedom and Changes Forces, opposition’s umbrella group, and the ruling Military Transitional Council (MTC).

The TMC spokesperson Shams Eldin Kabashi told Al-Jazeera, “The Talks started with high spirits and great transparency and we have reiterated our joint regard for the country.”

Kabashi added, “Talks will continue and we are optimistic on reaching a final result that we can announce to the Sudanese people as soon as possible”.

Following weeks of mass street protests in Sudan, before and after the fall of ex-President Omar al-Bashir, the military body was overseeing a two-year transitional period, during which the country will face a presidential election as promised by MTC.
Protesters and the opposition continued to demonstrate outside military headquarters after the fall of Bashir, demanding the MTC to hand over the power to the civilian transitional council.

The TMC has reported late on Wednesday three members of Sudanese ruling military body have stepped down amid tensions escalation with the opposition (civilians) demanding their resignation as they both sides have been at loggerheads over how much time will the TMC take to hand over power to the transitional civilian council. But however, their resignation has been put on hold.
