The United Kingdom parliament has on Thursday failed to vote majority to any of the eight alternatives for Brexit deal including labour’s alternative agreement and no-deal Brexit.

According to ANI news reports, parliament has provided the highest number for votes calling for a second referendum. Also, a resolution was passed with 441 votes in favour to change the date of Britain’s leaving the European Union (EU) to May 22 or if possible, April 12, which was earlier scheduled on March 29.

Brexit secretary Stephen Barclay said the vote results have bolstered the government’s view that British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit deal was best and the only way forward.

Speaking over the lack of the majority of votes for any alternatives on Wednesday, Barclay said. “It demonstrates that there is not an easy option here, that there is no easy way forward.”

Group of the members of parliament had suggested the government 15 options to the Brexit, out of which only eight were selected and proceeded for votes.

The closest result was a commitment for the government to negotiate a “permanent and comprehensive UK-wide customs union with the EU” in any Brexit deal.

Earlier on Wednesday, May told that she would step down if her Brexit deal gets passed through the parliament.

Some MPs are backing for another round of vote sessions, and several have claimed that any other referendum over Brexit would be a waste of time.

Barclay told parliament: “The results of the process this House has gone thro8gh today strengthens our views that the deal the government has negotiated is the best option.”

The EU has agreed over to extend Article 50 till May 22 in order to provide the UK parliament to support the withdrawal deal next week when the prime minister will hold a meaningful referendum.
