The US house of representative has on Tuesday failed to overrule President Donald Trump’s first veto on a resolution to block the president’s declaration of national emergency that sought to get funding for the construction of a border wall along with Mexico.

According to ANI news reports, the final vote stood at 248 to 181, falling short of the two-thirds majority required for the legislation to get passed in the US house. Many Republicans have backed Trump’s veto.

While slamming a “lawless” national emergency declaration by the US president, Democrat Senator from Texas Joaquin Castro and house speaker Nancy Pelosi outlined the further effort by the US Congress to restore America’ constitutional system of balance of power, according to the Hill newspaper reports.

In a joint statement, Pelosi and Castro wrote: “The President’s lawless emergency declaration clearly violates Congress’s exclusive power of the purse and the Congress will work through the appropriations and defence authorisation processes to terminate this dangerous action and restore our constitutional system of balance of powers.”

It further added, “Meanwhile, Trump thanked his fellow Republicans for backing his veto and hailed the “big win”, while also lambasting on the Democrats for not supporting his emergency declaration.”

In a tweet, Trump wrote: “Thank you to the House Republicans for sticking together and the BIG WIN today on the Border. Today’s vote simply reaffirms Congressional Democrats are the party of Open Borders, Drugs and Crime!”

House’ failure to overturn Trump’s emergency declaration comes a day after the official from Pentagon notified the Congress that it authorized $1 billion transfer for Trump’s demand of US-Mexico border wall.

The Pentagon has on Monday notified the US Congress that it has authorized $1 billion transfer for the construction of Trump’s demand of a US-Mexico border wall barricade.
