OMAHA, France, June 6: Western leaders, along with veterans have on Thursday summoned on the shored of France addressing the second days of events to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day, the amphibious assault that has opened ways for Europe’s liberation from Nazi Party and German politician Adolf Hitler.

According to Reuters news reports, at 06:26 am on June 6, a lone piper will play a lament at the spot where the first British soldiers landed on Gold beach in Normandy.

Later, United States President Donald Trump, British Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Emmanuel Macron will address events along the 50 miles stretch of Normandy coast, where over 150,000 troops landed under machine-gun fire and artillery’s hail.

The French president aroused the spirit of D-Day on Wednesday to speak of the modern requirement for international and multilateralism cooperation, a region where the US and its European allies have been at loggerhead.

After an event in Normandy, Macron said, “These allied forces that together freed us from the German yoke, and from tyranny, are the same ones that were able to build the existing multilateral structures after World War Two.”

He added, “We must not repeat history, and remind ourselves what was built on the basis of the war.”

Angela Merkel, the German Chancellor, appreciated the sacrifices made by tens of thousands of soldiers in an armed force operation that has brought freedom to Germany from National Socialism.

She said, “That I, as German chancellor, can be here today, that today we stand together for peace and freedom, is a gift from history that must be cared for and protected.”

The US president read a note spoken by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944, completing his three-day state visit to the United Kingdom (UK).
