Jeep is the only profitable brand for Stellantis in India and the idea of expanding its business here is the obvious next step for the American automaker giant. Jeep has decided to launch the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee with an introductory price tag starting at Rs.77.50 Lakhs (ex-showroom, India).

Want to learn more about it? Let’s take a look at the details related to it down below.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is now available in India.
  • Available with a sole turbocharged petrol engine.
  • To be sold in a single fully loaded trim for 2022-23.

Jeep Grand Cherokee

The best bit about the new Grand Cherokee is that it will be assembled locally in India which means Jeep is definitely trying to lower the cost of its product for Indian customers. On the outside, the SUV does look like an elder brother to the already existing Meridian. However, the seven-slot grille at the front, slim LED headlamps with DRLs, and massive alloy wheels are there to differentiate it from the younger sibling.

One might be familiar with the with the interiors of the Grand Cherokee as it is very similar to what we have witnessed on the Meridian. To differentiate, this one is available with more plush and premium components.

Starting with the dashboard, the SUV now houses three large screens and the first one is a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system sitting at the centre. The other two extreme ends holds a large 10.25-inch co-passenger screen and a fully digital instrument cluster as standard. Other features on Grand Cherokee includes a massive panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats, head-up display along with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

For occupants’ safety, it is loaded with 8 airbags, a 360-degree camera, 3-point seat belts and a detection system for who is seated inside the car. Interestingly, the SUV is also one of those SUVs that are available with the Advanced Driver Assistance System in India.

In India, Jeep Grand Cherokee is being offered with a sole 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 270 horsepower and 400Nm of peak torque. Surprisingly, the carmaker has paired this motor with an 8-speed automatic gearbox making the new SUV missing out on a manual transmission. There is no diesel engine on sale either.

Since it is a Jeep, the offroad capability of the SUV is up to the mark with a 4×4 Quadra-Trac system as standard. To suit surface-specific conditions, the American brand has also decided to offer a Selec-Terrain management system making it capable every time you take it off the road.

Deliveries of the new Grand Cherokee will start in the coming days. However, if you are considering it by any chance, the rivals including BMW X5, Range Rover Velar, Audi Q7, Volvo XC90 and Land Rover Discovery should also be kept in mind.
