A glimpse of Tata’s comeback to the Hyundai i20 was shown at the Auto Expo 2018 .With a design which made many go “wow” and a plethora of features, the 45x is the best example of what Tata has to offer in this segment over the forthcoming years. Being a premium hatchback concept, the 45x will directly compete with the Maruthi Suzuki Baleno and the Volkswagen Polo GT.

Based on Tara’s groundbreaking “Agile Light Flexible Advanced” architecture, the 45x will speak Tata’s latest design language, Impact Design 2.0, which will be the design for all of the company’s cars, including commercial vehicles. The 45X concept features LED headlamps, panoramic roof, 5-spoke alloy wheels and an integrated rear spoiler.

In the Tata 45X, the interior design and technology is expected to follow the public trend of employing connected technologies in their products. The 45X will come with a native smart phone application, which shows all the vital statistics of the car, plus some added functionalities. The infotainment system inside the 45X will also exchange vital information between your smart phone and the car.

Under the hood, the Tata 45X deploys the modified versions of the Tiago’s engine. The 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.05-litre diesel will be using variable geometry turbochargers. There will be an automatic variant, which is most probably an AMT. But rumours suggest that there might be a dual-clutch automatic transmission option.

The 45X comes with chunky tyres too and it’s a set of 235/35 Z R20s. The 45X concept is 4253 mm long, 1850 mm wide and 1451 mm high. The wheelbase of the 45X stands at 2630mm which, if retained in the production model, is more than the Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and even the Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

While the Tata 45X is an amazing concept and challenges even the best hatchbacks in the country, it does not yet seem production ready. But once it is released, it will be a game changer for Tata motors.
