Earlier, Ford left India, citing high production costs due to extreme import restrictions.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Maraimalai Nagar plant can also be used for export purposes.
  • The plant is spread across 350 acres with massive production capacity.

Ford Comeback: What is the news so far?

Several news agencies reported that Ford was in talks with the potential buyers. Those include some big names, such as the JSW Group and Vinfast. Other key automakers, including MG Motor, Tata Motors, Hyundai Motor India and Ola Electric were also in touch with Ford Motors India to close the deal. However, it never worked.

As we know, the Maramalai Nagar Plant is located in such a manner that it is close to major metro cities and ports, attracting a lot of attention from key players.

At the time of withdrawal, Ford offered approximately Rs.1296 crores to the workers of the Maramalai Nagar manufacturing facility. However, the America-based automaker is still having ownership of the facility and therefore, a lot of discussion about the same is till ongoing.

Few more details about the Maramalai Nagar Plant, Chennai

Ford’s Maramalai Nagar Plant is strategically located just 50 kilometres from the Chennai Port and 74 kilometres from Ennore Port. The same is also located just 320 kilometres away from Bengaluru, making it an attractive investment for many carmakers.

Spread across 350 acres with a massive production capacity, the Maramalai Nagar Plant is definitely a perfect asset for Ford India Private Limited.

Is it true that Ford is making a comeback to India? Well, that’s not confirmed, but if we go according to the speculations, there are chances that the automaker might be considering it for a comeback.
