If customers can stretch their budget a little bit higher then this segment is worth investing all your money in. The SUVs under this segment are practical, compact, comes with all the features required and even gets a four-wheel drive powertrain. You heard that right – “A FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM!”. Confused between the capable Jeep Compass and the all-rounder Hyundai Tucson? Well, we have compared both of them just to find which one suits you better.
Jeep Compass

Exterior
Nobody expects such a smaller SUV from Jeep and to be precise, this is something very unconventional from them. The sources even suggest that the brand is planning for an even smaller SUV soon for the Indian market. Coming back to the Compass, it looks striking with the signature grille, new bumper, projector LED headlamps and a muscular bonnet hood at the front. According to the latest specification sheet, the new SUV also runs on a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels available on the top-end variant.
Interior & Features
The updated Jeep Compass feels more premium inside with a total makeover for the MY2021. To begin with, it packs several modern features such as a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, a new multi-functional steering wheel, wireless charging pad and a large panoramic sunroof among others.
Talking about the safety aids, the brand promises to deliver export quality equipment such as 6 airbags, 360-degree camera, panic brake assist, hill climb assist and rollover mitigation.
Engine & Transmission
Under the hood, it is available with a Fiat-sourced 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. The overall output from this unit stands at 160BHP alongside a peak torque of 250Nm. There’s also a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel motor that churns out 167BHP and 350Nm of peak torque.
Both of them get a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard. However, customers who want added convenience can definitely opt for the 7-speed DCT for petrol variants and a 9-speed AT for the diesel variants. Just to note, only selected diesel variants are available with a 4X4 powertrain.
Pros and Cons
The new Jeep Compass packs almost all the features required in today’s world. However, the brand could have updated the exterior in a similar way they have finished the interior. The overall quality of the SUV feels top-notch but again the frequent price hike will bother the upcoming customers.
Hyundai Tucson

Exterior
Unlike the Jeep Compass, the updated Tucson feels more sophisticated with the fluidic design language. On the outside, it features a large grille that connects directly to the LED headlights. Interestingly, the new headlight setup is now an LED unit with distinct DRLs on board. According to the carmaker, the new Tucson runs on 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
Interior & Features
Inside the cabin, it sticks to the minimalistic approach with an intuitive 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charger and a large panoramic sunroof. Interestingly, the Korean brand has also decided to offer rain-sensing wipers and handsfree tailgate on the updated Tucson.
In terms of safety, it packs 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist and ABS with EBD among others.
Engine & Transmission
Coming to the Tucson, it comes powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine. As claimed by the manufacturer, this unit is tuned to produce 150BHP and 192Nm of peak torque. Also, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine is there with overall output rated at 182BHP and 400Nm.
Surprisingly, there’s no manual gearbox on offer. Therefore, a 6-speed automatic for the petrol variant and an 8-speed automatic gearbox for the diesel variant is available to handle transmission duties. Just like the Jeep Compass, even Tucson gets a four-wheel drive system on the top-end diesel variant.
Pros and Cons
First and foremost, there is no manual transmission on offer but the interior of the new Tucson feels really premium with less clutter. The entry-level variants are really priced high when compares to the Jeep Compass.
