Mercedes-Benz just launched two new models in India, showing how serious the German marque is about the market. The new launches here include facelifted versions of both the entry-level crossover – GLA and the performance-packed – GLE 53 Coupe.

2024 Mercedes-Benz GLA & AMG GLE 53 Coupe: What’s new?
In India, Mercedes-Benz has introduced GLA in three variants, named – GLA 200, GLA 220d and GLA 220d AMG Line. The major difference between these three are either the powertrains or styling.
For the facelifted model, the carmaker has come up with a new Spectral Blue shade. Other than this, the LED designs inside the headlight assembly, taillamp, new bumper and alloy wheels have also been revised to give the new GLA a refreshed design overall.
The cabin, on the other hand, remains the same with the same features. To be precise, inside the cabin, GLA is still loaded with twin 10.25-inch screens, where one is reserved for the central infotainment system while the other one is for the all-digital instrument cluster. Mercedes-Benz says that the 360-degree camera has been replaced with a completely new unit offering clear pictures around. The updated crossover also features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
At the heart, the new GLA series comes with multiple engine options. For starters, the 200 variant comes loaded with a 1.3-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine known for producing 163 horsepower and 270Nm. Then, there is a 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that churns out a decent 190 horsepower and 400Nm. Here only the diesel engine is available with Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe
In terms of changes, the updated GLE 53 Coupe now features minor revisions on the exterior. For instance, the headlights on the new power-packed SUV are new, along with a completely reworked bumper. Then, the change at the rear end is also similar with the new taillamps. As confirmed by the brand, it also comes with new alloy wheels to give the SUV a completely refreshed look.
Inside the cabin, the 2024 GLE 53 Coupe remains identical to the outgoing model. However, to align it with the changes on the outside, Mercedes has introduced new upholstery and panels. A few other changes on the performance-oriented SUV include a customisable head-up display, multi-function steering wheel and ventilation for the front seats. On the safety front, it now features 9 airbags as standard.
Under the hood, the facelifted Mercedes-AMG GLE 53 Coupe comes with a 3.0-litre six-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. To be precise, it is tuned to produce 435 horsepower and 560Nm to push the SUV to clock a triple-digit speed in just 5 seconds. The top speed of the same is electronically limited to 250 kmph with a 48V mild hybrid system available on board.
Pricing
The pricing of the new GLA series ranges between Rs.50.50 Lakhs to Rs.56.90 Lakhs (ex-showroom, India). Meanwhile, it is the AMG 53 GLE Coupe that feels quite expensive with a price tag of Rs.2.25 Crores (ex-showroom, India).
