Skoda Kushaq

Exterior

It was first revealed as the Vision IN concept long ago and surprisingly, not much has changed on the production version too. Just to begin with, the front profile of the all-new Skoda Kushaq comes with a pair of sleek headlights, a signature grille, fog lamps and a wide air intake just below the number plate housing.

Talking about the side profile, it does feel like a proper SUV with large 17-inch alloy wheels, body cladding and a set of functional roof rails. No, the new SUV is not at all sophisticated at the back. In fact, when witnessed from that angle, it gets stylish taillamps, a rear diffuser and a neatly finished stop lamp with a subtle spoiler sitting just above it. Interestingly, it is even available with a compact shark fin antenna that makes the rear profile even attractive.

Interior

For the first time, the quality of materials used inside doesn’t feel like a typical Skoda affair at all. There is a lot of cost-cutting done which is visible at any point. However, coming to the practicality, the new Kushaq does feel premium with touches like a two-spoke multi-functional steering wheel, chrome accents around AC vents and leather upholstery.

Feature-wise, the fully loaded variant comes equipped with ventilated front seats, wireless charger, electric sunroof, touch response climate control, ambient lighting, large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system and smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto.

In terms of safety, Skoda Kushaq packs six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring, ABS with EBD, traction control, rear parking camera, ESC and hill start assist among others.

Engine

As we know, Skoda is not offering any diesel engines in India. Therefore, the all-new Kushaq comes powered by either a 1.0-litre three-cylinder, turbo-petrol or a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. The first one is capable of propelling 114BHP and 178Nm of peak torque. Similarly, the overall output from the latter one is rated at 147BHP and 250Nm.

For now, both of them are available with a 6-speed gearbox as standard. Meanwhile, a 6-speed AT and 7-speed DSG are offered with their respective motors.

Alternatives

Options are a must. Therefore, in India, Skoda Kushaq competes with some best selling contenders such as Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, MG Hector and Tata Harrier among others. Want to know more about its prime rival? Well, take a look at the Hyundai Creta right here.
