200 rupee note

A few days back, we reported about the possible launch of ₹200 note by RBI. Recently, an image started to surface over social media, which claimed the leak of the new denomination. The picture, shown above claims to be of ₹200, the proposed new denomination by the RBI. However, there has not been an official confirmation on whether the circulating image is genuine or just a work of someone’s creativity.

Post demonetisation, the government has been trying hard to normalise the situation. However, in a cash-rich economy like India, cash crunch comes out to be a very big issue. Before demonetisation, the total value of currency notes in the country was ₹17.9 lakh crores, 80% of which was in form of ₹500 and ₹1000 notes. As part of remonetization and after introducing currency notes of ₹500 and ₹2000, the government has only been able to cover 80% of the currency as compared to the time before demonetisation.
