Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) sustained its leadership position in Indian passenger vehicle (PV) market segment in August by occupying 6 places in top 10 best selling list. MSI’s hatchback model Alto became the best selling car in August 2018.

Data from Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturer revealed that MSI sold 22,237 units of its entry-level model, Alto in the last month. The company sold 21,521 unit of the same model in the same month of the preceding year.

MSI’s subcompact DZIRE moved to the second position with 21,990 units from the first position in the corresponding month last year, when it had sold 30,934 units.

Premium hatchback Swift was the third best selling PV model in August with 19,115 units as compared to 12,631 units last year, ranked sixth.

Another famous model Baleno from MSI came fourth with 17,713 units sold last month.

Wagon R maintained its fifth position by selling 13,658 units in August. Continuing MSI’s dominance, SUV Vitara Brezza came sixth last month with 13271 units sold.

Owing to a mixed sale trend in August, the country’s largest car manufacturer witnessed 2.8% decline in its domestic sales. As reported by Auto ET, the domestic sales of MSI in August 2018 was recorded at 1,47,700 units against 1,52,000 units in August 2017.
