18 Indian startups selected for Oracle Startup Cloud Accelerator Program

As part of its global restructuring plan, computer software company Oracle has laid off 100 employees in India to gear up its cloud offerings. The changes come after the two top executives named, Thomas Kurian and Amit Zavery, quit the company to join Internet behemoth Google, as reported by various media reports.

The fresh layoffs seems to be more than the annual exercise of laying off under-performing employees and reflects to bigger sentiment.

As per some sources, the laid off employees largely included software developers, quality assurance, and documentation professionals and were asked to come for the meeting with their laptops, an indication that they would be asked to surrender their laptop and sign off.

The same sentiment is seen in the US too. When asked about the current lay-offs and reasons behind this such large numbers an Oracle spokesperson said, “As our cloud business grows, we will continually balance our resources and restructure our development group to help ensure we have the right people delivering the best cloud products to our customers around the world,” quoted as saying by Times of India (TOI).

Noteworthy, here is that software company Oracle is trying to shift its resources into the cloud. For this, it is reducing its exposure to the hardware and software businesses so that it can stand against the competition by giants like Google and Microsoft. The Oracle Cloud offers many services like integrated applications for sales, service, marketing, HR, finance, supply chain, and manufacturing.
