The Class 12 English Board Exam, conducted by Central Board for Secondary Education, that was scheduled to be conducted on March 1, 2019, witnessed an error of not providing an option between the two novel questions. The novels that were recommended to schools, for which the questions are asked about, were The invisible man by H.G Wells and Silas Marner by George Eliot. In order to attempt the question, the children are provided an option between the two novels for answering the question to their recommended novel. However, the board set one question for each novel covering 11th and 12th question without providing a choice between the two.

Looking at this mistake made by the Board, “Therefore, CBSE must compensate the children with full six marks specified for the question which was out of the syllabus,” the parent demanded.

“Students are prescribed to read one of the novels, either The invisible man or Silas Marner. Questions are made such that 11 and the 12th question has one question from each novel but this time it was given separately,” said another parent.

CBSE official informs that students will not be put to disadvantage due to this error.

“There is a mechanism to take care of such issues before finalizing the marking scheme so that students are not put to any disadvantage,” the official said.

CBSE conducted it’s 12th English Board Examination on Friday, with 12.87 lakh students appearing for the examination concluding at 1:30 p.m.

The Board was reported to have a provision of receiving feedbacks after the paper gets over by the teachers, it was then reported and the whole error in the question paper started to circulate.
