Dr. CP Thakur, former Union Minister, and BJP MP have been appointed as the Chancellor of the Central University of South Bihar, Gaya on Friday for a tenure of five years, March 1, 2019.

He has been awarded  Padma Shri and BC Roy Awards. President Ram Nath Kovind, being the Visitor of the central universities, appointed him, after the department of higher education, the ministry of human resource department, instructed CUSB for the same.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof Harish Chandra Singh Rathore informed that for a long time this position stood vacant and appreciated the recruitment of Dr. C P Thakur.

“He will preside over the board meeting and convocation,” he added.

“I will try to contribute whatever best I can for the institution,” Thakur said.

Dr. C P Thakur, after completing his MBBS from the PMCH in Patna, in 1957, he practiced teaching in the same institute for a long time and also got awarded Padmashree in 1982. He was also a member of Rajya Sabha and became the Health Minister in 2018 and was also awarded Life Time Award by the World Health Organization in Asia
